§ 100.507 - Chesapeake Bay Bridges Swim Races, Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

Definitions —(1)Regulated Area: The waters of the Chesapeake Bay between and adjacent to the spans of the William P. Lane Jr. Memorial Bridgeshore to shore 500 yards north of the north span of the bridge from the western shore at latitude 39°00′36″ North, longitude 76°23′05″ West and the eastern shore at latitude 38°59′14″ North, longitude 76°20′00″ West, and 500 yards sough of the south span of the bridge from the western shore at latitude 39°00′16″ North, longitude 76°24′30″ West and the eastern shore at latitude 38°58′38.5″ North, longitude 76°20′06″ West. The Coast Guard Patrol Commander: The Coast Guard Patrol Commander is a commissioned, warrant, or petty officer who has been designated by the Commander, Coast Guard Activities Baltimore.(b)
Special Local Regulations. (1) Except for persons or vessels authorized by the Coast Guard Patrol Commander, no person or vessel may enter or remain in the regulated area.(2) The operator of any vessel in the immediate vicinity of this area shall:
(i) Stop the operator's vessel immediately upon being directed to do so by any commissioned, warrant or petty officer on board a vessel displaying a Coast Guard ensign.
(ii) Proceed as directed by any commissioned, warrant or petty officer.
(c)
Effective period. This section is effective during the Chesapeake Bay Bridges Swim, and for one hour before the event starts. The Commander, Fifth Coast Guard District publishes a notice in theFederal Register and the Fifth Coast Guard District Local Notice to Mariners that announces the time and dates that the section is in effect.
