The authority under § 301-14.1 is to be given priority consideration when the life-threatening situation is expected to be of temporary duration (normally no more than 60 days) and the only feasible alternative is to transfer the employeee to a new duty station. The head of an agency or his/her designee must make the final decision as to how long such payments should continue based on the specific nature and potential duration of the life-threatening situation and the alternative costs of a change of official station for protective purposes.
