  • § 1601.0-2 Objective.

    The objective of resource management planning by the BLM Bureau of Land Management is to manage public lands on the basis maximize resource values for the public through a rational, consistently applied set of regulations and procedures which promote the concept of multiple use and sustained yield, unless otherwise specified by law, provide for meaningful public involvement by management and ensure participation by the public, State state and local governments, Indian tribes and appropriate Federal agencies in the preparation and amendment of resource . Resource management plans , and ensure that the public lands be managed in a manner that will protect the quality of scientific, scenic, historical, ecological, environmental, air and atmospheric, water resource, and archeological values; that, where appropriate, will preserve and protect certain public lands in their natural condition; that will provide food and habitat for fish and wildlife and domestic animals; that will provide for outdoor recreation and human occupancy and use, and which recognizes the Nation's need for renewable and non-renewable resources including, but not limited to, domestic sources of minerals, food, timber, and fiber from the public lands. are designed to guide and control future management actions and the development of subsequent, more detailed and limited scope plans for resources and uses.
