SUMMARY:

This notice contains a summary of a petition seeking relief from specified requirements of 14 CFR. The purpose of this notice is to improve the public's awareness of, and participation in, this aspect of FAA's regulatory activities. Neither publication of this notice nor the inclusion or omission of information in the summary is intended to affect the legal status of the petition or its final disposition.

Petition for Exemption

Docket No.: FAA-2008-1136.

Petitioner: L-3 Communications Integrated Systems.

Section of 14 CFR Affected: 14 CFR 26.47.

Description of Relief Sought: The petitioner requests an exemption from the requirements of § 26.47 for several Airbus Model A340-200, -211, and -213 airplanes and Boeing Model 747-430, 747SP, and 767-200 airplanes, modified in accordance with certain supplemental type certificates (STCs). Section 26.47 requires holders of, and applicants for, an STC to develop damage tolerance data for airplane alterations and repairs. Section 26.47 is intended to apply to airplanes operating under part 121 or 129. The airplanes, which the petitioner is seeking exemption for, are not currently operating in the United States under part 121 or 129, nor is there any plan to do so in the future.
