SUMMARY:

The Department of Commerce, as part of its continuing effort to reduce paperwork and respondent burden, invites the general public and other Federal agencies to take this opportunity to comment on proposed and/or continuing information collections, as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

I. Abstract

This collection implements certain provisions of the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials (Firearms Convention). Sections 742.17 and 748.14 of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) require exporters of certain firearms to Organization of American States (OAS) countries to obtain an Import Certificate from the government of the importing country. This alerts the OAS country of the proposed import and helps insure compliance with the Firearms Convention.
