Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices: Meeting
In accordance with section 10(a)(2) of the Federal Advisory
Committee Act (Pub. L. 92-463), the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) announces the following committee meeting:
Name: Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
Times and Dates: 9 a.m.-5:45 p.m., February 17, 1999, 8 a.m.-
3:45 p.m., February 18, 1999.
Place: Atlanta Marriott North Central, 2000 Century Boulevard,
N.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30345-3377.
Status: Open to the public, limited only by the space available.
Purpose: The Committee is charged with advising the Director,
CDC, on the appropriate uses of immunizing agents. In addition,
under 42 U.S.C. Sec. 1396s, the Committee is mandated to establish
and periodically review and, as appropriate, revise the list of
vaccines for administration to vaccine-eligible children through the
Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, along with schedules regarding
the appropriate periodicity, dosage, and contraindications
applicable to the vaccines.
Matters to be Discussed: The agenda will include an update from
the Food and Drug Administration; update from the National
Immunization Program; update from the Vaccine Injury Compensation
Program; update from the National Vaccine Program; update from the
pneumococcal working group; report by the polio working group on
transition to an all Inactivated Poliovirus schedule; prevention and
control of influenza recommendation; world and U.S. influenza
surveillance data for the 1999-2000 season; influenza-related
morbidity in young children; 1999 influenza vaccine guidelines;
prevention of varicella; varicella use in children with HIV/AIDS;
update on varicella safety and efficacy; post exposure use of
varicella vaccine; ACIP recommendations for vaccination of adults;
ACIP recommendations for vaccine requirements for day care and
school entry; update on the status of the hepatitis B
recommendation; revised recommendation for vaccination of children
against hepatitis A; revised recommendation for Lyme disease
vaccine; use of rotavirus vaccine in premature children; update on
general principles of VFC; consolidating VFC resolutions for
pneumococcal, hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines; draft
recommendation for algorithms for immunization registries;
electronic updating of ACIP reports and recommendations; and the
anti-vaccine movement in the U.S.A. Other matters of relevance among
the committee's objectives may be discussed.
Agenda items are subject to change as priorities dictate.
