Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation; Notice of Filing

January 20, 1998.
    Take notice that on December 22, 1997, Rochester Gas and Electric 
Corporation (RG&E) filed a Service Agreement between RG&E and The Power 
Company of America, L.P. (Customer). This Service Agreement specifies 
that the Customer has agreed to the rates, terms and conditions of the 
RG&E open access transmission tariff filed on July 9, 1996 in Docket 
No. OA96-141-000.
    RG&E requests waiver of the Commission's sixty (60) day notice 
requirements and an effective date of December 12, 1997, for The Power 
Company of America, L.P., Service Agreement. RG&E has served copies of 
the filing on the New York State Public Service Commission and on the 
Customer.
    Any person desiring to be heard or to protest said filing should 
file a motion to intervene or protest with the Federal Energy 
Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426 
in accordance with Rules 211 and 214 of the Commission's Rules of 
Practice and procedure (18 CFR 385.211 and 385.214). All such motions 
or protests should be filed on or before February 2, 1998. Protests 
will be considered by the Commission in determining the appropriate 
action to be taken, but will not serve to make the protestants parties 
to the proceeding. Any person wishing to become a party must file a 
motion to intervene. Copies of this filing are on file with the 
Commission and are available for public inspection.
