Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection
Agency, Food and Drug Administration, National Institute of Standards
and Technology, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and U.S. Geological
Survey are meeting to develop a joint interagency guidance manual for
programs and laboratories to use when planning and implementing the
analysis of environmental samples for radioactivity. The manual uses a
performance based approach and will provide guidance to both project
planners and laboratory personnel. The guidance is being developed as a
draft document, entitled the Multi-Agency Radiation Laboratory
Protocols (MARLAP) Manual, and it is anticipated that the final product
will be a consensus document each agency can agree upon and adopt.
Meetings of the group are open to the public on a first come, space
available basis with advance registration. The agenda for this meeting
will be available on the appropriate INTERNET sites listed below.
