    Notice of Intent To Prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for 
    the Disposal and Reuse of Excess Facilities at Fort Hunter Liggett, 
    California
    
    AGENCY: Department of the Army, DoD.
    
    ACTION: Notice of intent.

    SUMMARY: The Department of the Army will prepare an EA for the disposal 
    and reuse of excess facilities at Fort Hunter Liggett, California.
    
        The proposed action is to implement the recommendation of the 1995 
    Defense Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC) Commission under Public law 
    101-510 (as amended), the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 
    1990, for Fort Hunter Liggett, California. The EA will address the 
    direct and indirect environmental and socioeconomic effects associated 
    with implementing the Commission's recommendation to retain minimum 
    essential facilities and training area as an enclave to support the 
    Reserve Components. Specifically, the EA will examine the effects 
    associated with the disposal and reuse of approximately 139 acres, 63 
    buildings; and 86 family housing units at Fort Hunter Liggett, 
    California.

    considered before any action is taken to implement these disposal and 
    reuse actions.
