Consumers Energy Company; Notice of Availability of Draft
    Environmental Assessment

    September 26, 1997.
A draft environmental assessment (DEA) is available for public
review. The DEA was prepared for a plan to construct angler access
facilities at what is known as the Port Sheldon site. The plan was
required by ordering paragraph (C) of the Order Approving Settlement
Agreement Regarding Fishery Issues, issued by the Commission on January
23, 1996. The Port Sheldon site is located adjacent to Lake Michigan
and Pigeon Lake, near the Town of West Olive, Michigan.
The DEA finds that the licensee's plan is not a major federal
action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.
The DEA was written by staff in the Office of Hydropower Licensing,
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Copies of the DEA can be viewed
at the Commission's Reference and Information Center, Room 2A, 888
First Street, NE., Washington, DC 20426. Copies can also be obtained by
contacting the project manager listed below.
