This program helps to ensure that requested data can be provided in the desired format, reporting burden (time and financial resources) is minimized, collection instruments are clearly understood, and the impact of collection requirement on respondents can be properly assessed.

Background: AmeriCorps grants are generally awarded to eligible organizations to recruit, train, and manage AmeriCorps members who address unmet community needs. AmeriCorps members are individuals who engage in community service. Members may receive a living allowance during their term of service. Upon successful completion of their service members receive an education award from the National Service Trust.
Roughly one quarter of all AmeriCorps grant funding goes to National grantees, which operate in more than one state. The AmeriCorps Application Instructions: National Direct, National Direct Education Award Program, National Professional Corps, Indian Tribes, and National Planning are used by applicants interested in these programs. The application is completed electronically using eGrants, the Corporation's web-based grants management system.
Current Action: The Corporation seeks to separate the current application instructions into two separate sets of instructions in order to increase clarity and ease of use. The application will be used in the same manner as the existing application. The Corporation also seeks to continue using the current application instructions until the revised application instructions are approved by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
