The United Illuminating Company; Notice of Filing

October 21, 1996.
    Take notice that on August 28, 1996, The United Illuminating 
Company (UI) tendered for filing an Updated Market Power Analysis in 
compliance with the Commission's orders in Docket Nos. ER93-3-000 and 
ER93-3-001, dated May 19, 1993, and August 17, 1993, respectively, and 
in compliance with UI's Wholesale Electric Sales Tariff, FERC Electric 
Tariff, Original Volume No. 2, which authorizes UI to sell capacity and 
associated energy to non-affiliates at market-based rates.
    Any person desiring to be heard or to protest said filing should 
file a motion to intervene or protest with the Federal Energy 
Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426, 
in accordance with Rules 211 and 214 of the Commission's Rules of 
Practice and Procedure (18 CFR 385.211 and 18 CFR 385.214). All such 
motions or protests should be filed on or before October 29, 1996. 
Protests will be considered by the Commission in determining the 
appropriate action to be taken, but will not serve to make protestants 
parties to the proceeding. Any person wishing to become a party must 
file a motion to intervene. Copies of this filing are on file with the 
Commission and are available for public inspection.
