SUMMARY: The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has recently
concluded the public comment period on the proposed licensing criteria
for disposal of high-level radioactive wastes in a possible geologic
repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada (10 CFR Part 63). The proposed
rule was published in the Federal Register on February 22, 1999 (64 FR

of defense in depth, as applied to a possible geologic repository at
    Yucca Mountain.
The NRC staff will hold a facilitated Round Table Discussion in Las
Vegas, Nevada to foster a common understanding among the stakeholders
on issues associated with repository defense in depth. The meeting will
open with an NRC presentation of an overview and issues associated with
the defense in depth concept, followed by public discussion facilitated
by Francis X. Cameron, Special Counsel for Public Liaison, of the NRC
    Office of the General Counsel.

DATES: The Round Table Discussion will be held on Tuesday, November 2,
    1999, from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m (Pacific time).
