DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
Foreign-Trade Zones Board
[Docket 76-97]
Foreign-Trade Zone 143--Sacramento, CA; Application for Subzone
Status; The Gymboree Corporation (Apparel, Accessories and Toys),
Dixon, California
An application has been submitted to the Foreign-Trade Zones Board
(the Board) by the Port of Sacramento, grantee of FTZ 143, requesting
subzone status for the warehousing/distribution facility of the
Gymboree Corporation (Gymboree), located in Dixon, California, some 25
miles west of Sacramento. The application was submitted pursuant to the
provisions of the Foreign-Trade Zones Act, as amended (19 U.S.C. 81a-
81u), and the regulations of the Board (15 CFR part 400). It was
formally filed on October 24, 1997.
The facility (300,000 sq. ft. on 15 acres; 100 employees) is
located at 2299 Kids Way in Dixon. It is used to store, distribute and
repackage a wide range of consumer products, including children's
apparel, accessories, shoes and toys, most of which are sourced from
abroad. The products are distributed throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Zone procedures would exempt Gymboree from Customs duty payments on
the foreign products that are reexported. On its domestic sales, it
would be able to defer Customs duty payments on foreign-sourced items.
The application indicates that zone savings would help improve the
international competitiveness of the distribution facility.
In accordance with the Board's regulations, a member of the FTZ
staff has been appointed examiner to investigate the application and
report to the Board.
Public comment is invited from interested parties. Submissions
(original and 3 copies) shall be addressed to the Board's Executive
Secretary at the address below. The closing period for their receipt is
December 30, 1997. Rebuttal comments in response to material submitted
during the foregoing period may be submitted during the subsequent 15-
day period January 14, 1998.
A copy of the application and accompanying exhibits will be
available for public inspection at each of the following locations:
U.S. Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center, 917 7th St., 2nd
Floor, Sacramento, California 95814
Office of the Executive Secretary, Foreign-Trade Zones Board, Room
