    Notice of petitions for exemption received

    SUMMARY:

    Pursuant to FAA's rulemaking provisions governing the application, processing, and disposition of petitions for exemption part 11 of Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR), this notice contains a summary of certain petitions seeking relief from specified requirements of 14 CFR. The purpose of this notice is to improve the public's awareness of, and participation in, this aspect of FAA's regulatory activities. Neither publication of this notice nor the inclusion or omission of information in the summary is intended to affect the legal status of any petition or its final disposition.

    Description of Relief Sought:

    To permit American Airlines, Inc. (American), its certificated dispatchers, and its pilots in command to dispatch flights to domestic airports at which for at least 1 hour before and 1 hour after the estimated time of arrival at the destination airport the appropriate weather reports or forecasts, or any combination of them, indicate the ceiling may be reduced from at least 2,000 feet to 1,000 feet above the airport elevation and visibility may be increased from at least 2 miles to 3 miles. If this exemption is granted, American will maintain at least a Category I approach authorization and the intended destination airport must have at least one operational Category I Instrument Landing System.
