In accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (Pub. L. 92-
463, as amended), the National Science Foundation announces the
following meeting.
NAME: Special Emphasis Panel in Physics (1208).
DATE: October 28-30, 1997.
PLACE: Room 112/114 East Bridge, California Institute of Technology
1201 E. California Boulevard, Pasadena, California.
TYPE OF MEETING: Closed.

PURPOSE OF MEETING: To review the technical aspects and management of
the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) project.
AGENDA: An overview of the project. Detailed examination of the
technical aspects of the project and the management of the technical
systems.
REASON FOR CLOSING: The Project plans being reviewed include
information of a proprietary or confidential nature, including
technical information; information on personnel and proprietary data
for present and future subcontracts. These matters are exempt under 5
U.S.C. 552b(c), (4) and (6) of the Government in the Sunshine Act.
