provided:
Authority
This action is authorized under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe
Streets Act of 1968, Secs. 201-03, as amended, 42 U.S.C. 3721-23
(1988).
Background
The purpose of this solicitation is to provide funding to State and
local governments to develop or improve the capability to analyze
deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in State and local forensic laboratories.
This program is authorized by the DNA Identification Act of 1994
(Public Law 103-322).
This solicitation is for the second year of the 5-year grant
program authorized by the Act.
Interested persons should call the National Criminal Justice
Reference Service (NCJRS) at 1-800- 851-3420 to obtain a copy of
``Solicitation for the Forensic DNA Laboratory Improvement Program''
(refer to document no. SL000166). The solicitation is available
electronically via the NCJRS Bulletin Board, which can be assessed via
Internet. Telnet to ncjrsbbs.ncjrs.org, or gopher to ncjrs.org:71. For
World Wide Web access, connect to the NCJRS Justice Information Center
at http://www.ncjrs.org, then click on the ``Justice Grants' button.
