DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
Department of the Air Force
O'Hare ARS
On October 30, 1996, the Air Force entered into an Agreement
(``Agreement'') with the City of Chicago (``City'') to implement
portions of the Final Report to the President of the 1995 Defense Base
Closure and Realignment Commission (``Report''), issued in accordance
with the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990, as amended
(``Base Closure Act''), concerning the closure of the O'Hare Air
Reserve (ARS) in Chicago, Illinois. As required by the Base Closure Act
and the Report, and pursuant to the Agreement, the Air Force will close
the O'Hare ARS, deactivate the Air Reserve Unit at the O'Hare ARS, and
relocate Illinois Air National Guard units to other locations in the
state. The Air Force has completed all the environmental analyses and
reviews required under the National Environmental Policy Act and the
Clean Air Act for the implementation of the O'Hare ARS portion of the
Report. The Air Force will convey the O'Hare ARS property in its
entirety to the City of Chicago, unless the City fails to satisfy the
conditions specified in the Agreement. Execution of the Agreement
constitutes the Air Force's final action with respect to arranging for
the closure and disposal of the O'Hare ARS.
