    Notice of Lodging of Consent Decree Pursuant to the Comprehensive 
    Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act
    
        In accordance with Departmental policy, notice is hereby given that 
    a proposed partial consent decree in United States v. Acme Solvents 
    Reclaiming, Inc., et al., Case No. 89 C 7748, was lodged on November 1, 
    1994, with the United States District Court for the Northern District 
    of Illinois.
        The proposed partial consent decree resolves claims of the United 
    States against several direct defendants and third party defendants in 
    United States v. Acme Solvents Reclaiming, Inc., et al., brought under 
    Section 107 of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, 
    and Liability Act (``CERCLA''), 42 U.S.C. 9601 et seq., as amended, for 
    the recovery of past costs incurred by the United States at the Acme 
    Solvents Reclaiming hazardous waste site (``Acme Site'') in Winnebago 
    County, Illinois. Under the terms of the proposed decree, the settling 
    defendants will pay the United States $775,000 in settlement of the 
    United States' past costs claims against them.
        The Department of Justice will receive, for a period of thirty (30) 
    days from the date of this publication, comments relating to the 
    proposed partial consent decree. Comments should be addressed to the 
    Assistant Attorney General for the Environment and Natural Resources 
    Division, Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. 20530, and should 
    refer to United States v. Acme Solvents Reclaiming, Inc., et al., DOJ 
    Ref. # 90-11-2-177.
        The proposed partial consent decree may be examined at the Office 
    of the United States Attorney, 219 S. Dearborn Street, Chicago, 
    Illinois 60604; the Region 5 Office of the United States Environmental 
    Protection Agency 77 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, Illinois 60604; and at 
    the Consent Decree Library, 1120 G Street, N.W., 4th Floor, Washington, 
    D.C. 20005, 202-624-0892. A copy of the proposed partial consent decree 
    may be obtained in person or by mail from the Consent Decree Library, 
    1120 G Street, N.W., 4th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005. In requesting a 
    copy, please refer to the case referenced above and enclose a check in 
    the amount of $7.00 (25 cents per page reproduction costs), payable to 
    the Consent Decree Library.
