The Department of Agriculture has submitted the following information collection requirement(s) to OMB for review and clearance under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, Public Law 104-13. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service
Title: Swine 2012 Study.
OMB Control Number: 0579-0315.
Summary of Collection: Collection and dissemination of animal health data and information is mandated by 7 U.S.C. 391, the Animal Industry Act of 1884, which established the precursor of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services, the Bureau of Animal Industry. The National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) will initiate the fifth national data collection of swine through the Swine 2012 Study. The Swine 2012 study is part of an ongoing series of NAHMS studies on the U.S. Start Printed Page 71308Swine population. APHIS will collect information using several forms.
Need and use of the Information: The information collected through the Swine 2012 study will be analyzed and organized into descriptive reports and will be disseminated by APHIS to the producers, stakeholders, academia, veterinarians, and any other interested parties. The data collected will also be used to measure change over time from the previous NAHM's Swine studies. Without this type of national data, the U.S.' ability to detect trends in management, production, and health status that increases/decreases farm economy either directly or indirectly would be reduced to nonexistent.
