Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council; Public Meeting

AGENCY: National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and 
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Commerce.

ACTION: Notice of public meeting.

SUMMARY: The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) will 
convene a public meeting of the Shrimp Advisory Panel (AP).

DATES: The meeting will be held on January 3, 1997, beginning at 9:00 
a.m. and will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The Shrimp AP will review scientific 
information on the cooperative shrimp seasonal closure with the state 
of Texas, and it may also consider information on the potential for 
cooperative closures with Mexico.
    The AP may develop recommendations to the Council regarding the 
extent of Federal waters off Texas that will be closed in 1997 
concurrently with the closure of Texas waters. It may also provide 
direction to the Council regarding the potential for future cooperative 
closures with Mexico.
    The AP consists principally of commercial shrimp fishermen, dealers 
and association representatives.
