Kalsec, Inc.; Withdrawal of Food Additive Petition

AGENCY: Food and Drug Administration, HHS.

ACTION: Notice.

SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is announcing the 
withdrawal, without prejudice to a future filing, of a food additive 
petition (FAP 2A4339) proposing that the food additive regulations be 
amended to provide for the safe use of tetrahydro-isohumulones and 
hexahydro-isohumulones derived from hop alpha acids as flavoring agents 
in beer.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: In the Federal Register of February 26, 1993 
(58 FR 11609), FDA announced that a food additive petition (FAP 2A4339) 
had been filed by Kalsec, Inc., P.O. Box 511, Kalamazoo, MI 49005-0511. 
The petition proposed that the food additive regulations in 
Sec. 172.560 Modified hop extract (21 CFR 172.560) be amended to 
provide for the safe use of tetrahydro-isohumulones and hexahydro-
isohumulones derived from hop alpha acids as flavoring agents in beer. 
Kalsec, Inc., has now withdrawn the petition without prejudice to a 
future filing (21 CFR 171.7).
