Notice of Final Comments on Draft Nureg-1628 ``Staff Responses to
Frequently Asked Questions Concerning Decommissioning of Nuclear Power
Reactors''
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is announcing that final
comments on NUREG-1628, ``Staff Responses to Frequently Asked Questions
Concerning Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Reactors,'' are due by
January 30, 1999. NUREG-1628 was issued for public comment on April 21,
1998.
This document, through a question-and-answer format, provides
general information on decommissioning to members of the public. As a
result of comments received to date from

members of the public, the final document will be updated.
The report contains information on the following topics as they
relate to decommissioning: decommissioning alternatives, experience in
the U.S. regulation of decommissioning, low-level waste storage and
disposal of wastes associated with facility storage and
decommissioning, high-level waste storage and disposal, license
termination, and hazards associated with decommissioning.
