description of permit and modification: On September 7, 1994, the 
National Science Foundation issued a permit to Dr. Wayne Z. Trivelpiece 
after posting a notice in the August 8, 1994 Federal Register. Public 
comments were not received. A request to modify the permit was posed in 
the Federal Register on December 21, 1994. No public comments were 
received. The modification, issued by the Foundation on January 23, 
1995, allows for the collection of 1 ml blood samples from 20 Adelie 
penguins breeding at Copacabana Station on King George Island and from 
20 Adelie penguins breeding at Palmer Station on Anvers Island. All 
birds will be released after capture and collection of the blood 
samples.
