National Advisory Council on Indian Education; Meeting
AGENCY: National Advisory Council on Indian Education, Education.
ACTION: Notice of closed meeting.

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and proposed agenda of a
forthcoming meeting of the National Advisory Council on Indian
Education. This notice also describes the functions of the Council.
Notice of this meeting is required under section 10(a)(2) of the
Federal Advisory Committee Act. This meeting will be closed to the
public.
DATES AND TIME: February 23-24, 1995 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The National Advisory Council on Indian
Education is established under section 5342 of the Indian Education Act
of 1988 (25 U.S.C. 2642). The Council is established to, among other
things, assist the Secretary of Education in carrying out
responsibilities under the Indian Education Act of 1988 (Title V, Part
C, Pub. L. 100-297) and to advise Congress and the Secretary of
Education with regard to Federal education programs in which Indian
children or adults participate or from which they can benefit.
Under section 5342 of the Indian Education Act of 1988, the Council
is directed to make recommendations to the Secretary of Education for
filling the position of Director, Office of Indian Education, whenever
a vacancy occurs. The purpose of the meeting will be to interview
candidates for the position.
Subsequently, the Council will submit recommendations to the
Secretary of Education for filling such vacancy. Interviews with the
candidates and discussions held in conjunction with the selection
process will involve matters which relate solely to the internal
personnel rules and practices of an agency and are likely to disclose
information of a personal nature where disclosure would constitute a
clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy if conducted in open
session. Such matters are protected by exemptions (2) and (6) of
section 552b(c) of the Government in the Sunshine Act (Pub. L. 94-409;
5 U.S.C. 552b(c)).
The public is being given less than 15 days notice due to problems
in scheduling this meeting.
Records are kept of all Council proceedings and are available for
public inspection at the office of the National Advisory Council on
Indian Education, located at 330 C Street SW, Room 4072, Washington, DC
20202-7556 from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday, except holidays. A summary of activities of this closed meeting
which are informative to the public consistent with the policy of Title
5 U.S.C. 552b will be available for public inspection within 14 days of
the meeting.
