NATIONAL EDUCATION GOALS PANEL


Notice of Meeting

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the date and location of a forthcoming 
meeting of the National Education Goals Panel. This notice also 
describes the functions of the Panel.
    Date and Time: Saturday, February 21, 1998 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 
a.m.

SUMMARY: The National Education Goals Panel was established to monitor, 
measure and report state and national progress toward achieving the 
eight National Education Goals, and report to the states and the Nation 
on that progress.
    Agenda Items: The meeting of the Panel is open to the public. 
Agenda items will include: 1) Panel discussion and action on Standards 
Implementation policy statements; 2) the release of two new 
publications, Ready Schools and Principles and Recommendations for 
Early Childhood Assessment which will be presented by Sharon Lynn 
Kagan, Yale Bush Center, and Lorrie Shepard, University of Colorado at 
Boulder; and 3) the Panel will discuss policy recommendations for Early 
Childhood Assessment.
