SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On December 31, 1998, the Department of
Energy published a Notice of Inquiry in the Federal Register (62 FR
68272) soliciting public comments concerning the continuation or
modification of the provisions of the Price-Anderson Act. These
comments will assist the Department in the preparation of a report on
the Act to be submitted to Congress by August 1, 1998 as required by
the Atomic Energy Act. The initial comments were due on January 30,
1998. In addition, reply comments on the initial comments were due on
February 13, 1998.
Several of the initial comments indicated the comment period should
be longer because of the complex legal and policy issues raised by the
Notice of Inquiry. In response to these requests for a longer comment
period, the Department has decided to change the due date for reply
comments from February 13, 1998, to February 25, 1998. This extension
will provide more time for the preparation of reply comments.
Issued in Washington, DC on February 9, 1998.
Eric J. Fygi,
Acting General Counsel.
