    AGENCY: Food and Drug Administration, HHS.

    SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is announcing the 
    withdrawal, without prejudice to a future filing, of a food additive 
    petition (FAP 9B4149), proposing that the food additive regulations be 
    amended to provide for the safe use of N-((3-dimethylamino)propyl)-2-
    propenamide, polymer with 2-propenoic acid, sodium salt as a dispersing 
    aid in paper and paper coatings intended for use in contact with food.

    SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: In a notice published in the Federal 
    Register of August 1, 1991 (56 FR 36185), FDA announced that a food 
    additive petition (FAP 9B4149) had been filed on behalf of Stockhausen, 
    Inc., 2401 Doyle St. (formerly 2408 Doyle St.), Greensboro, NC 27406. 
    The petition proposed to amend the food additive regulations in 
    Sec. 176.170 Components of paper and paperboard in contact with aqueous 
    and fatty foods (21 CFR 176.170) to provide for the safe use of N-((3-
    dimethylamino)propyl)-2-propenamide, polymer with 2-propenoic acid, 
    sodium salt as a dispersing aid in paper and paper coatings intended 
    for use in contact with food.
        Stockhausen, Inc., has now withdrawn the petition without prejudice 
    to a future filing (21 CFR 171.7).
