program for a Fellowship Program in Violence Prevention for Minority
Medical Students. This program addresses the ``Healthy People 2000''
priority area of Violent and Abusive Behavior. The purpose of this
program is to provide minority medical students with training in
violence prevention and epidemiological research over an eight-week
period at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Specifically,
this award is intended to:
1. Develop and strengthen minority physicians' leadership in
violence prevention;
2. Provide education and research opportunities in violence
prevention for minority medical students;
3. Provide a model for future violence prevention training programs
at the undergraduate medical school level and;
4. Provide eight-week fellowships for four fellows to participate
in epidemiological research on violence and in violence prevention
projects.
B. Eligible Applicants

project period of up to three years. Funding estimates may change.

period.
Continuation awards within the project period will be made on the
basis of satisfactory progress as evidenced by required reports and the
availability of funds.
