Delegation of Authority To Issue Subpoenas

AGENCY: Office of Inspector General, Office of the Secretary, HHS.

ACTION: Notice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY: This notice of the Inspector General's delegation of authority 
to issue subpoenas supersedes the prior delegation of authority that 
was published in the Federal Register on April 2, 1986 (51 FR 11347).

EFFECTIVE DATES: This notice is effective on February 8, 1994.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The Inspector General hereby delegates the 
authority to issue subpoenas to the Principal Deputy Inspector General, 
the Deputy Inspectors General, the Assistant Inspectors General and the 
Regional Inspectors General, in accordance with the authority set forth 
in section (6)(a)(4) of the Inspector General Act of 1978, Public Law 
95-452, as amended by Public Law 100-504 (codified at 5 U.S.C. App.). 
Specifically, section 6(a)(4) authorizes the Inspector General to 
subpoena the production of all information, documents, reports, 
answers, records, accounts, papers and other data and documentary 
evidence necessary to perform the functions assigned to the Inspector 
General.
    This delegation of authority does not limit the Inspector General's 
authority to issue subpoenas.
    This delegation may not be redelegated.
