    ACTION: Notice of meeting.

    SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and proposed agenda for 
    the inaugural meeting of the National Library of Education Advisory 
    Task Force (Task Force). This notice also describes the functions of 
    the Task Force. Notice of this meeting is required under Section 
    10(a)(2) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act and is intended to 
    notify the public of their opportunity to attend.
    
    DATES AND TIME: March 5, 1996, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; March 6, 1996, 
    9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; March 7, 1996, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The National Library of Education Advisory 
    Task Force is authorized by Part E, Section 951 (h) of the Educational 
    Research, Development, Dissemination, and Improvement Act of 1994. The 
    Task Force prepares a set of recommendations on the establishment and 
    development of the National Library of Education for presentation to 
    the Assistant Secretary for the Office of Educational Research and 
    Improvement.
        The meeting of the Task Force is open to the public. The agenda for 
    March 5 includes the swearing in of the Task Force. There will be 
    briefings on the Federal Advisory Committee Act, standards of ethical 
    conduct, greetings from the Department, the Office of Educational 
    Research and Improvement, and the National Library of Education; and a 
    period for the Task Force members to introduce themselves, ask 
    questions, and contribute their perspectives concerning their 
    collective task and the role of a national education library from the 
    customer standpoint. The agenda for March 6 continues intensive 
    discussions of the Task Force members' perspectives on the development 
    of a National Library of Education. On March 7 the agenda will include 
    a site visit to the ACCESS ERIC offices in Rockville, Maryland and a 
    discussion led by Task Force members focused on the electronic aspects 
    of the library, including but not limited to such items as the 
    Educational Resources Information Center, the Internet, and the one-
    stop toll free reference and information service.
        A final agenda will be available from the offices of the National 
    Library of Education on February 19, 1996.
        Records are kept of all Task Force proceedings, and are available 
    for public inspection at the central office of the National Library of 
    Education, 555 New Jersey Ave., NW., Washington, DC 20208-5523 between 
    the hours of 8:30-4:30 p.m.
