AGENCY: National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Commerce.
ACTION: Modification no. 3 to scientific research permit no. 717
(P77#44).

SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that a request for modification of
scientific research permit no. 717 submitted by Dr. Howard W. Braham,
Alaska Fisheries Science Center, NMFS, NOAA, National Marine Mammal
Laboratory, 7600 Sand Point Way, NE., Building 4, Seattle, WA 98115,
has been granted.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On January 20, 1995, notice was published in
the Federal Register (60 FR 4148) that a modification of permit no.
717, issued October 22, 1990 (55 FR 35923), had been requested by the
above-named organization. The requested modification has been granted
under the authority of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, as
amended (16 U.S.C. 1361 et seq.), and the provisions of Secs. 216.33(d)
and (e) of the Regulations Governing the Taking and Importing of Marine
Mammals (50 CFR part 216).
The modification authorized the holder to take an additional 10
California sea lions (Zalophus californianus) for instrumentation and
the permit was extended until December 31, 1996.
