EIS. A Notice of Availability of the Draft EIS was published by EPA in
the Federal Register (60 FR 6710) as EIS No. 950034, Draft EIS, AFS,
AZ, Carlota Open-Pit Copper Mine Project on February 3, 1995. The
Forest Service, USDA, has decided to extend the review period an
additional 45 days.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The Forest Service received a number of
requests from both other agencies and the public to extend the review
period due to the complexity of the issues and the length of the Draft
EIS. After review of the extension requests, and consideration of
potential impacts to the mining proponent, an additional 45 days is
reasonable to provide for review of the Draft EIS. The entire comment
period will total 97-100 days from the release of the Draft.
