Consultation Proceeding on the ``Crisis of the Young African
American Male in the Inner Cities''
AGENCY: Commission on Civil Rights.
ACTION: Notice of consultation.

SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that a public consultation before the
U.S. Commission on Civil Rights will commence on Thursday, April 15
through Friday, April 16, 1999, daily at 8:30 a.m. in the Holiday Inn,
[[Page 13962]]
Congressional Room, located at 415 New Jersey Avenue, N.W., Washington,
DC 20001.
The purpose of the consultation is to collect information within
the jurisdiction of the Commission, to examine the crisis of the young
African American male in the inner cities, in the areas of criminal
justice, education, health care, and employment/entrepreneurial
opportunies. The Commission is an independent bipartisan, factfinding
agency authorized to study, collect, and disseminate information, and
to appraise the laws and policies of the Federal Government, and to
study and collect information with respect to discrimination or denials
or equal protection of the laws under the Constitution because of race,
color, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin, or in the
administration of justice.
Hearing impaired persons who will attend the consultation and
require the services of a sign language interpreter, should contact
