DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
Employment and Training Administration
[TA-W-29,210]
Aluminum Company of America Lafayette, IN; Affirmative
Determination Regarding Application for Reconsideration
On March 7, 1994, after being granted a filing extension, the
company and the Aluminum, Glass and Brick Workers' Union (ABGWIU)
requested administrative reconsideration of the Department's denial
notice for workers at the subject firm. The Department's Negative
Determination was issued on January 18, 1994 and was published in the
Federal Register on February 14, 1994 (59 FR 6963).
The petitioners stated that the Department's survey was inadequate;
that workers at two other Alcoa locations were recently certified
eligible for trade adjustment assistance and that Russia was dumping
aluminum on the open market.
Conclusion
After careful review of the application, I conclude that the claim
is of sufficient weight to justify reconsideration of the Department of
Labor's prior decision. The application is, therefore, granted.
Signed at Washington, DC, this 22nd day of March 1994.
Stephen A. Wandner,
Deputy Director, Office of Legislation and Actuarial Services,
Unemployment Insurance Service.
