AGENCY: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), DOT.
ACTION: Notice of petitions for exemption received and of dispositions
of prior petitions.

SUMMARY: Pursuant to FAA's rulemaking provisions governing the
application, processing, and disposition of petitions for exemption (14
CFR Part 11), this notice contains a summary of certain petitions
seeking relief from specified requirements of the Federal Aviation
Regulations (14 CFR chapter I), dispositions of certain petitions
previously received, and corrections. The purpose of this notice is to
improve the public's awareness of, and participation in, this aspect of
FAA's regulatory activities. Neither publication of this notice nor the
inclusion or emission of information in the summary is intended to
affect the legal status of any petition or its final disposition.
DATES: Comments on petitions received must identify the petition docket
number involved and must be received on or before May 15, 1995.

Description of Relief Sought/Disposition: To extend Exemption No. 5630,
which allows persons operating aircraft within, to, or from the State
of Alaska to fly their aircraft across the inner boundaries of the
Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), or the Defense Early
Warning Identification Zone (DEWIZ), without displaying temporary or
permanent registration marks at least 12-inch high, unless otherwise
required by other provisions of the FAR. The amendment, which is
denied, would have made this a permanent exemption.

Description of Relief Sought/Disposition: To extend Exemption No. 5256,
as amended, which extends the date by which Continental Airlines, Inc.
(CAL) must install windshear [[Page 18656]] detection equipment in all
the aircraft CAL operates. This extension is contingent upon the timely
compliance with a Precondition for Effectiveness of Exemption and
Margin of Error, which states that this extension will become effective
on January 1, 1996, on the condition that at least 188 CAL aircraft of
the ``Target type of aircraft'' are equipped with FAA-approved
predictive windshear detection equipment by no later than December 31,
1995.
