    I. Abstract

The Technical Advisory Committees were established to advise and
assist the U.S. Government on export control matters. In managing the
operations of the TACs, the Department of Commerce is responsible for
implementing the policies and procedures prescribed in the Federal
Advisory Committee Act. The Bureau of Export Administration provides
technical and administrative support for the Committees.
The TACs advise the government on proposed revisions to export
control lists, licensing procedures, assessments of the foreign
availability of controlled products, and export control regulations.
Any producer of items subject to export controls can make application
to the Secretary of Commerce requesting that a committee be
established. The information provided is used to determine if the
creation of a committee is appropriate.
