This notice is published in accordance with Section 9(a)(2) of the
Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), 5 U.S.C. App. (1988). Following
consultation with the General Services Administration and the Office of
Management and Budget, notice is hereby given that the Secretary of the
Interior is administratively reestablishing an advisory committee known
as the National Park System Advisory Board.
The purpose of this committee is to advise the Director of the
National Park Service on matters relating to the National Park Service,
the National Park System, and programs administered by the National
    Park Service.
The Secretary of the Interior will appoint to this committee 12
members who have outstanding expertise in the fields of history,
    archeology, architecture, historical architecture, landscape
architecture, anthropology, biology, ecology, or social science, or in
other professional disciplines important to the mission of the National
Park Service. Consideration will be given to a cross-section of
qualified individuals who are interested in and directly affected by
National Park Service activities, and who represent divergent points of
view. Appointments will be made from among individuals who have been
identified through contacts with and among National Park Service and
Department of the Interior staff; other Federal agencies; professional
organizations; institutions of higher learning; and non-governmental
organizations having a special interest in the mission of the National
Park Service; and the general public.

    Certification

I hereby certify that the administrative reestablishment of the
National Park System Advisory Board is necessary and in the public
interest in connection with the performance of duties imposed on the
Department of the Interior by the Act of August 25, 1916 (16 U.S.C. 1,
et seq.), as amended and supplemented, and other statutes relating to
the administration of the National Park System.
