Description: The Current Point of Purchase Survey (CPP), Computer
Assisted telephone Interview (CATI) is used to develop and maintain a
timely list of retail, wholesale, and service establishments (outlets)
where people shop. The list of outlets produced from the survey serves
as a sampling frame from which the Bureau of Labor Statistics selects
places to price items in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) market basket.
The 1995-1996 CPP/CATI survey data are necessary to obtain a list of
outlets for new and redefined items that will be introduced to the CPI
market basket for the 1998 revised index.
