Shooting Restriction on Public Lands; Oregon
April 15, 1996.
AGENCY: Bureau of Land Management, Interior.
ACTION: Notice is hereby given that the area as legally described below
is seasonally closed to shooting.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: This closure order applies to all areas within
Township 16 South, Range 12 East, Section 9, NE of the SW; Section 9,
SE of the SW; and Section 9, NW of the SE.
Effective immediately, all areas as described above are closed to
shooting between January 1 and August 31, annually. ``Shooting'', in
this closure, is defined as the discharge of firearms. A firearm is
defined as a weapon, by whatever name known, which is designed to expel
a projectile by the action of powder and which is readily capable of
use as a weapon. The purpose of this closure is to protect wildlife
resources. More specifically, this closure is ordered to protect a
nesting pair of golden eagles and other raptors present in the area.
Currently, the occurrence of shooting at this site jeopardizes the
persistence and nesting success of the golden eagles at this location.
Exemptions to this closure order may be made on a case-by-case basis by
the authorized officer. This emergency order will be evaluated in the
Urban Interface Amendment to the Brothers/La Pine Resource Management
Plan of 1989. The authority for this closure is 43 CFR 8364.1: Closure
and restriction orders.
