SUMMARY: In accordance with 37 CFR 404.6, announcement is made of the
availability of U.S. Patent Application SN 09/035,910 entitled

Method for Purifying Cholera Toxin.'' This patent has been assigned to
the United States Government as represented by the Secretary of the
    Army.

ADDRESSES: Commander, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command,
Command Judge Advocate, MCMR-JA, 504 Scott Street, Fort Detrick, MD
    21702-5012.

    FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT:
Mr. Charles Harris, Patent Attorney, 301-619-7807, Fax 301-619-5034.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: A new affinity purification method has been
developed that can be used to purify cholera toxin (CT) and the B
subunit of CT. In addition to purifying the native CT, it can be used
to purify chemical conjugates or genetically engineered fusion proteins
composed of CTB. This purification procedure is highly selective, since
it can be used to purify CT but not the closely related heat-labile
enterotoxin of Escherichia coli. This procedure is extremely fast and
simple to perform, resulting in an extremely pure preparation. The
affinity matrix is available commercially and can be used repeatedly
without loss of affinity or resolution.
    Mary V. Yonts,
Alternate Army Federal Register Liaison Officer.
