Proposed Withdrawal; Opportunity for Public Meeting; Utah
AGENCY: Bureau of Land Management, Interior.
ACTION: Notice.

SUMMARY: The Bureau of Land Management proposes to withdraw 260 acres
of public land near St. George, Utah, to protect the Baker Dam
Recreation Site. This notice closes these lands for up to two years
from surface entry and mining. The lands will remain open to mineral
leasing.
DATES: Comments on the proposed withdrawal or request for public
meeting must be received on or before August 8, 1994.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On April 22, 1994, a petition was approved
allowing the Bureau of Land Management to file an application to
withdraw the following described land from settlement, sale, location,
or entry under the general lands laws, including the United States
mining laws (30 U.S.C. ch 2), subject to valid existing rights:
Salt Lake Meridian
T. 39 S., R. 16 W.,
sec. 21, N\1/2\SE\1/4\, SE\1/4\SE\1/4\;
sec. 22, SW\1/4\SW\1/4\, W\1/2\SE\1/4\SW\1/4\;
sec. 28, N\1/2\NE\1/4\.
The area described contains 260 acres in Washington County, Utah.
The purpose of the proposed withdrawal is to protect the
recreational values of Baker Dam Recreation Site and the investment of
federal funds which have been, and will be expended to develop the
site. It is a popular area for fishing, as well as other water-related
activities, for local residents of nearby communities, the St. George
area, and visitors from Nevada and California.
For a period of 90 days from the date of publication of this
notice, all persons who wish to submit comments, suggestions, or
objections in connection with the proposed withdrawal may present their
views in writing to the State Director at the address indicated above.
Notice is hereby given that an opportunity for a public meeting is
afforded in connection with the proposed withdrawal. All interested
parties who desire a public meeting for the purpose of being heard on
the proposed withdrawal must submit a written request to the State
Director at the address indicated above within 90 days from the date of
publication of this notice. Upon determination by the authorized
officer that a public meeting will be held, a notice of the time and
place will be published in the Federal Register at least 30 days before
the scheduled date of the meeting.
The application will be processed in accordance with the
regulations set forth in 43 CFR part 2300.
For a period of two years from the date of publication of this
notice in the Federal Register, the land will be segregated as specific
above unless the application is denied or canceled or the withdrawal is
approved prior to that date. The temporary uses which may be permitted
during this segregative period are leases, licenses, permits, rights-
of-way, and disposal of vegetative resources other than under the
mining laws.
