    ACTION: Correction to notice of proposed rulemaking.

    SUMMARY: This document contains a correction to the proposed rule (DEA-
    162P) which was published Tuesday, May 6, 1997 (62 FR 24620). The 
    proposed rule related to the removal of fenfluramine from the 
    Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

    SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:
    
    Background
    
        The proposed regulation that is the subject of this correction 
    makes amendment to Part 1308 of Title 21 of the Code of Federal 
    Regulations to remove the anorectic drug, fenfluramine, including its 
    salts, isomers and salts of isomers from control under the CSA.
    
    Need for Correction
    
        As published, this proposed rule allowed for a 60 day period for 
    comments, objections and requests for a hearing. As stipulated in 21 
    CFR 1308.44(g), the Administrator may designate in the notice of the 
    proposed rulemaking, the time during which written comments and 
    objections may be filed. However, as stipulated in 21 CFR 1308.45(a), 
    requests for a hearing on a proposed rulemaking must be filed within 30 
    days after the date of publication of the proposed rulemaking in the 
    Federal Register.
    
    Correction of Publication
    
        Accordingly, the publication on May 6, 1997 of the proposed rule 
    (DEA-162P), which was the subject of FR Doc. 97-11689, is corrected as 
    follows:
        On page 24620, in the first column, in the DATES section, the entry 
    ``Comments, objections, and requests for a hearing must be received on 
    or before July 7, 1997.'' is corrected to read ``Comments and 
    objections must be received on or before July 7, 1997. Requests for a 
    hearing must be received on or before June 5, 1997.
