AGENCY: National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Commerce.
ACTION: Issuance of scientific research permit no. 782-1349.

SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that Dr. Howard W. Braham, Director,
National Marine Mammal Laboratory, Alaska Fisheries Science Center,
National Marine Fisheries Service, NOAA, 7600 Sand Point Way NE., BIN
C15700, Seattle, Washington 98115-0070, is hereby authorized to take
Dall's porpoise (Phocoenoides dalli) for purposes of scientific
research.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On March 25, 1997, notice was published in
the Federal Register (62 FR 14115) that the above-named applicant had
submitted a request for a scientific research permit to capture, tag,
release, and unintentionally harass Dall's porpoise for the purpose of
scientific research in Washington and Oregon waters, over a 5-year
period. The requested permit has been issued under the authority of the
Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1361 et
seq.), and the Regulations Governing the Taking and Importing of Marine
Mammals (50 CFR Part 216).
