    Southern Natural Gas Company; Notice of Request Under Blanket 
    Authorization
    
    May 16, 1997.
        Take notice that on May 9, 1997, Southern Natural Gas Company 
    (Southern), Post Office Box 2563, Birmingham, Alabama 35202-2563, filed 
    in the above docket, a request pursuant to Sections 157.205, and 
    157.211 of the Commission's Regulations under the Natural Gas Act (18 
    CFR 157.205, and 157.211) for authorization to construct and operate a 
    new delivery point for service to Maytag Cleveland Cooking Products 
    (Maytag), under Southerns blanket certificate issued in Docket No. 
    CP82-406-000, all as more fully set forth in the request which is on 
    file with the Commission and open to public inspection.
        Specifically, Southern proposes to construct, install and operate a 
    meter station consisting of one 3-inch orifice meter and other 
    appurtenant facilities. Southern states that it will own and operate 
    the meter station as part of its pipeline system. Southern states that 
    the Station will designated by Southern as

    the ``Maytag Meter Station'' (Point Code 790500). Southern proposes to 
    construct and operate the facilities in order to provide transportation 
    service to Maytag at a new delivery point for service at approximately 
    Mile Post 19.6 on Southern 12'' Cleveland Branch Line in Bradley 
    County, Tennessee.
        The estimated cost of the construction and installation of the 
    facilities is approximately $154,300. Maytag has complied with all of 
    the requirements under Section 36 of the General Terms and Conditions 
    of Southerns FERC Gas Tariff for the installation of the direct 
    delivery connection by Southern and will reimburse Southern for the 
    cost of constructing and installing the proposed facilities.
        Southern states that it will transport gas on behalf of Maytag 
    under its Rate Schedule IT. Southern states that the installation of 
    the proposed facilities will have no adverse effect on its ability to 
    provide its firm deliveries.
        Any person or the Commission staff may, within 45 days after 
    issuance of the instant notice by the Commission, file pursuant to Rule 
    214 of the Commissions Rules of Practice and Procedure (18 CFR 385.214) 
    a motion to intervene or notice of intervention and pursuant to Section 
    157.205 of the regulations under the National Gas Act (18 CFR 157.205) 
    a protest to the request. If no protest is filed within the time 
    allowed therefore, the proposed activity is deemed to be authorized 
    effective on the day after the time allowed for filing a protest. If a 
    protest is filed and not withdrawn within 30 days after the time 
    allowed for filing a protest, the instant request shall be treated as 
    an application for authorization pursuant to Section 7 of the Natural 
    Gas Act.
