Entergy Operations, Inc.; River Bend Station, Unit 1, Notice of
Withdrawal of Application for Amendment to Fire Hazards Analysis Report
and Safety Analysis Report
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (the Commission) has
permitted Entergy Operations, Inc. (the licensee), to withdraw its
November 6, 1996, application seeking approval for a deviation from its
approved fire protection program to the extent the program incorporated
the technical requirements of Section III.G.2 of Appendix R to part 50
of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations for the River Bend
Station, Unit 1, located in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.
The application sought Commission approval for changes to the Fire
Hazards Analysis Report and Safety Analysis Report with respect to the
installation of a partial-area automatic fire suppression system in
lieu of a full-area suppression system in Fire Area C-16.
The Commission had previously issued a proposed no significant
hazards consideration determination published in the Federal Register
on December 4, 1996 (61 FR 64385). However, by letter dated December
17, 1998, the licensee withdrew the application. For further details
with respect to this action, see the licensee's request dated November
6, 1996, as supplemented by letters dated July 31, 1997, and April 13,
1998, and EOI's letter dated December 17, 1998, which withdrew the
original request. The above documents are available for public
inspection at the Commission's Public Document Room, the Gelman
Building, 2120 L Street, NW., Washington, DC, and at the Governments
Documents Department, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge,
Louisiana.
