    Withdrawal of a Color Additive Petition
    
    AGENCY: Food and Drug Administration, HHS.
    
    ACTION: Notice.

    SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is announcing the 
    withdrawal, without prejudice to a future filing, of a color additive 
    petition (CAP 8C0068) proposing that the color additive regulations be 
    amended to provide for the safe use of FD&C Violet No. 1 to color food, 
    drugs, and cosmetics.

    SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: In a notice published in the Federal 
    Register of November 20, 1968 (33 FR 17205), FDA announced that a color 
    additive petition (CAP 8C0068) had been filed by The Cosmetic, Toiletry 
    and Fragrance Association, Inc., 1101 17th St. NW., suite 300, 
    Washington, DC 20036 (formerly the Toilet Goods Association, Inc.), the 
    International Association of Color Manufacturers, 1620 I St. NW., suite 
    925, Washington, DC 20006 (formerly the Certified Color Industry 
    Committee), and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, 1100 15th 
    St. NW., Washington, DC 20005. The petition proposed that the color 
    additive regulations be amended to provide for the safe use of FD&C 
    Violet No. 1 to color food, drugs, and cosmetics. The Cosmetic, 
    Toiletry and Fragrance Association, Inc., the International Association 
    of Color Manufacturers, and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers 
    Association have now withdrawn the petition without prejudice to a 
    future filing (21 CFR 71.6(c)(2)).
