    SUMMARY:

    HUD is seeking approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the information collection described below. In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act, HUD is requesting reinstatement without change of a previously approved collection for which approval has expired. The reinstatement of this previously approved PRA collection for which approval has expired is required in order to withdraw this PRA. The information collection required for the Family Unification Program (described below) is now covered under OMB# 2577–0169.

    This notice informs the public that HUD is seeking approval from OMB for the information collection described in section A.

    A. Overview of Information Collection

    Title of Information Collection: Family Unification Program (FUP).

    Description of the need for the information and proposed use: The reinstatement of this previously approved PRA collection for which approval has expired is required in order to withdraw this PRA. The information collection required for the Family Unification Program (described below) is now covered under OMB# 2577–0169. The Family Unification Program (FUP) is a program, authorized under section 8(x) of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. 1437(X), that provides housing choice vouchers to PHAs to assist families for whom the lack of adequate housing is a primary factor in the imminent placement of the family's child or children in out-of-home care; or the delay in the discharge of the child, or children, to the family from out-of-home care. Youths at least 18 years old and not more than 21 years old (have not reached 22nd birthday) who left foster care at age 16 or older and who do not have adequate housing are also eligible to receive housing assistance under the FUP. As required by statute, a FUP voucher issued to such a youth may only be used to provide housing assistance for the youth for a maximum of 18 months. Vouchers awarded under FUP are administered by PHAs under HUD's regulations for the Housing Choice Voucher program (24 CFR part 982).

    B. Solicitation of Public Comment

    This notice is soliciting comments from members of the public and affected parties concerning the collection of information described in Section A on the following:

    (1) Whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether the information will have practical utility;

    (2) The accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the `proposed collection of information;

    (3) Ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and

    (4) Ways to minimize the burden of the collection of information on those who are to respond; including through the use of appropriate automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology, e.g., permitting electronic submission of responses.

    HUD encourages interested parties to submit comments in response to these questions.
