    Southern Natural Gas Company; Notice of GSR Cost Recovery Filing
    
    June 5, 1996.
        Take notice that on May 31, 1996, Southern Natural Gas Company 
    (Southern) tendered for filing as part of its FERC Gas Tariff, Seventh 
    Revised Volume No. 1, the following tariff sheets with the proposed 
    effective date of July 1, 1996.

        Tariff Sheets Applicable to Supporting Parties:

        Southern sets forth in the filing of its revised demand surcharges 
    and revised interruptible rates that will be charged in connection with 
    its recovery of GSR costs associated with the payment of price 
    differential costs under unrealigned gas supply contracts or contract 
    buyout costs associated with continuing realignment efforts as well as 
    sales function costs during the period February 1, 1996 through April 
    30, 1996. These GSR costs have arisen as a direct result of customers' 
    elections during restructuring to terminate their sales entitlements 
    under Order No. 636.
        Southern states that copies of the filing were served upon 
    Southern's customers and interested state commissions.
        Any person desiring to be heard or to protest said filing should 
    file a motion to intervene or protest with the Federal Energy 
    Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426, 
    in accordance with 18 CFR 385.214 and 385.211 of the Commission's Rules 
    of Practice and Procedure. All such motions or protests must be filed 
    as provided in Section 154.210 of the Commission's Regulations. 
    Protests will be considered by the Commission in determining the 
    appropriate action to be taken, but will not serve to make protestants 
    parties to the proceeding. Any person wishing to become a party must 
    file a motion to intervene. Copies of Southern's filing are on file 
    with the Commission and are available for public inspection.
