Notice of Availability
AGENCY: Office of the Police Corps and Law Enforcement Education,
Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Department of Justice.
ACTION: Notice of availability.

SUMMARY: The Department of Justice invites the submission of State
Plans for the implementation of the Police Corps. The Police Corp
provides scholarships and financial assistance for educational expenses
to qualified individuals in participating States in return for a
commitment to devote four years of service as a member of a State or
local police force. All States of the United States, the District of
Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American
Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are
eligible to submit a State Plan.
DATES: Invitations to submit a State Plan and background materials will
be mailed to the chief executives of eligible States and other
jurisdictions during the week of June 10, 1996. State Plans for the FY
1996 Police Corps pilot project should be submitted by July 31, 1996.
